The 4th National Education Summit Zimbabwe, convened in Bulawayo from 27 to 29 May 2026 under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Driving Innovation and Investment in Zimbabwe’s Education System,” has adopted sixteen resolutions as part of the Bulawayo Resolution. Resolution 7 — Digital Transformation — is a landmark commitment that positions Zimbabwe’s education system squarely within the realities of a digital, AI-driven global economy.
WHAT THE RESOLUTION SAYS
The Summit resolved to expand investment in school connectivity, digital learning platforms and educational technologies, and to integrate digital skills and emerging technologies — including Artificial Intelligence — into teaching and learning across all institutions. These two commitments work in tandem: connectivity without curriculum integration produces infrastructure without impact; curriculum integration without connectivity produces aspiration without access. Together they form a coherent, ambitious national digital education agenda.
WHY THIS RESOLUTION MATTERS
Zimbabwe has long been recognised for its high literacy rates and its deep cultural value of education. But literacy in 2026 means more than reading and writing. It means navigating digital platforms, understanding data, applying AI tools, and competing in a global economy that is increasingly powered by technology.
The digital divide within Zimbabwe’s education system — between well-resourced urban schools and under-connected rural institutions — is one of the defining equity challenges of this generation. Resolution 7 confronts that divide directly, committing to investment and integration that reaches every school, not just those already advantaged.
ALIGNMENT WITH GOVERNMENT POLICY
Resolution 7 aligns directly with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s digital education framework and Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2, which identifies digital transformation as a critical driver of economic growth and human capital development. NESZ, as the authoritative civil society voice on education, reaffirms its commitment to supporting and amplifying MoPSE’s digital education agenda at every level — from policy advocacy to stakeholder convening.
