Transforming Zimbabwe’s Education: From Policy to Practice

Zimbabwe is set to host the National Education Summit Zimbabwe (NESZ) from the 27th to the 29th of May 2026 in Bulawayo, bringing together key stakeholders across government, industry, academia, and civil society. Convened under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Driving Innovation and Investment in Zimbabwe’s Education System,” the Summit seeks to move beyond dialogue and toward actionable solutions.

Over the years, Zimbabwe has developed a number of progressive education policies aimed at improving access, quality, and relevance. However, implementation gaps continue to limit the full impact of these frameworks. NESZ 2026 is designed to address this disconnect by fostering collaboration and accountability among stakeholders.

Mr. Alson Darikayi, President of Action Empowerment Zimbabwe, emphasized the urgency of this shift: “Zimbabwe has no shortage of policy frameworks. What we need now is deliberate, coordinated action that translates these policies into real opportunities for our learners and educators.”

The Summit will focus on key areas such as innovation in teaching and learning, strengthening public-private partnerships, and aligning education with the demands of the modern economy. Discussions will also explore investment opportunities within the sector, positioning education as a critical driver of national development.

Executive Officer of the National Education Summit, Ms. Violet Nkathazo, highlighted the practical orientation of the platform: “This Summit is not just about ideas—it is about outcomes. We are bringing together stakeholders who are ready to commit to tangible change and measurable impact.”

Delegates are expected from government ministries, development partners, private sector leaders, and youth representatives, to this end, NESZ 2026 represents a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s education discourse. It provides a platform for inclusive engagement and collective problem-solving.

As Zimbabwe continues its journey toward Vision 2030, the role of education in driving economic growth and social transformation cannot be overstated. The National Education Summit Zimbabwe offers a timely opportunity to bridge the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that the country’s education system delivers meaningful outcomes for all.
